VISAKHAPATNAM: The massive fire that broke out at Biomax Fuels Limited in the Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone (VSEZ) continued to rage on Thursday 40 hours after it was sparked from a tanker storing bi-diesel.

As many as 40 fire tenders have been fighting the flames. Firemen said it may take at least another six hours to bring the flames under control.

Fire officer J Mohana Rao told Express that by 12 noon Thursday, the fire was still consuming one storage tank while thick smoke continued to billow from another. "Except for these two tanks, the oil stored in 10 tanks has almost burnt out. However, we are spraying foam and water continuously to keep the flames under control. We expect that we will bring the flames under control by the evening and the fire will be doused completely by night," he said.

"We will keep the fire tenders at the fuel facility till Friday," Rao added.
