LUCKNOW: IG Meerut Sujeet Pandey was today named to head the probe into the Bulandshahr gangrape incident while Principal Secretary (Home) and DGP of Uttar Pradesh were directed to ensure speedy investigation.

"On #UPCM @yadavakhilesh instruction, Sh.Sujith Pandey, IG meerut will head the #Bulandshahr case," the office of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said in a tweet.

"#UPCM @yadavakhilesh also directed PS Home/DGP to ensure speedy investigation and ensure justice is delivered at the earliest," the CM Office said in another tweet.

A cab driver's family was attacked by a group of bandits on Friday night and his wife and daughter were brutally raped at gunpoint after dragging them out of the car in Bulandshahr on NH-91.

The gangrape horror has witnessed political slugfest with Opposition parties accusing ruling Samajwadi Party of "protecting and appeasing" criminals ahead of Assembly polls and senior minister Azam Khan describing it as an outcome of political conspiracy against the UP government.

Director General of Police Javeed Ahmed, meanwhile, said that the three accused who have been arrested were identified by the victims.

"The names of other accused are almost clear and efforts are on to arrest them," he said.

Uttar Pradesh Police had yesterday arrested Naresh (25), Bablu (22) and Rais (28) and detained a dozen others after launching a massive hunt for the dacoits suspected to be behind the crime.

The DGP, who had visited the spot of crime, said the Special Task Force of UP Police was on the job.
