Minor raped in Uttar Pradesh, Myanmar refugee molested

A five-year-old girl was raped in Uttar Pradesh’ in Hapur on Saturday morning following which the villagers blocked the national highway 24 between Delhi and Lucknow demanding the arrest of the accused.

NEW DELHI: A five-year-old girl was raped in Uttar Pradesh’ in Hapur on Saturday morning following which the villagers blocked the national highway 24 between Delhi and Lucknow demanding the arrest of the accused.

The girl was sleeping outside her house with her 10-year-old sister when one or more unidentified persons kidnapped and raped her, according to the police complaint. She was found on a roadside plot about 50 metres away from their house, and taken to a local hospital. Doctors referred her to the Meerut Medical College, where a medical examination confirmed sexual assault.

“The family was sleeping outside the house as the weather was humid. They did not get to know when the criminals took the girl away,” Hapur superintendent of police Alankrita Singh said.

The family members only realised the girl was missing when they were woken by rain at about 4 am.

The incident comes barely a week after a mother and daughter were brutally raped on the Bulandshahr highway, resulting in widespread protests.

In another incident, one accused were arrested and two juvenile were apprehended in the national capital, for molesting a pregnant refugee from Myanmar. The 23-year-old woman was molested in Dabri area in Delhi. The incident took place when the woman was walking home with her husband. The victim told the police that the accused approached her on a motorbike, groped her and passed lewd and indecent remarks about her. The woman and her husband resisted the sexual onslaught, but the assailants responded by attacking them by bricks.

The victim’s husband managed to catch one of the attackers, while the other two fled the police. They were tracked down later. The apprehended man was handed over to the police. The adult accused was produced before Dwarka court and has been sent to 14-day judicial custody.

The couple had come to India in 2009. The victim works in a factory, nearby.
