Three BSF personnel, militant killed in operation near LoC

An army official said army and BSF men launched a joint operation in Machil sector near LoC after receiving information about presence of militants there.

SRINAGAR: Three BSF men including an officer and a militant were killed in a gunfight near Line of Control (LoC) in Machil sector of border district of Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.

An army official said army and BSF men launched a joint operation in Machil sector near LoC after receiving information about presence of militants there.

He said during the combing operation, a gunfight erupted between the soldiers and the militants.

“In the ensuing gunfight, two BSF men and a militant were killed. Three border guards and two army men were also injured in the gunfight. The injured security personnel were evacuated to army  hospital in Srinagar for specialized treatment,” the official said.

He said one of the critically injured BSF man later succumbed to injuries in the army hospital. “The condition another jawan is critical”.

The deceased BSF men were identified as Sub Inspector Mohinder Yadav, Head Constable C P Singh and Constable Babu Shaan.

The army official said combing operation in the area was going on when reports last poured in.

He said the army and BSF men are engaged in the combing operation.
