NEW DELHI: Senior Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leader Brijpal Tevatia is still critical, but more stable than what he was on Thursday night, said Fortis Hospital, Noida, Zonal Director Gagan Sehgal on Friday.

“The patient, Mr. Brijpal Tevatia, was brought to the hospital last night in a critical condition with multiple gunshot injuries. He was operated upon by team of three different surgical departments, Department of Cardio Thoracic and Vascular Surgery, Department of Orthopedics and Department of Reconstructive Surgery.

Currently, the patient is on life support and his condition continues to be critical. Our doctors are closely monitoring the patient and are doing their best,” Sehgal said.

Tevatia and five others were shot at by unidentified assailants at Muradnagar in Ghaziabad late on Thursday evening. The assailants allegedly fired over 100 rounds of ammunition on his convoy.

Police have picked up large amounts of ammunition, including an AK-47 and two 9mm pistols from the crime scene.

Tevatia is said to be a close confidante of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. Singh said that it is the responsibility of the Uttar Pradesh government to maintain law and order as it is a state subject.
