PDP MLA Yousuf Bhat's house attacked by mob in Shopian

SRINAGAR: The house of ruling PDP MLA Mohammad Yousuf Bhat in Shopian was attacked by a mob which set ablaze the security guard room and a motorcycle, police said today.

Bhat, who is the chief whip of PDP in the Assembly, and his family were not present in the house at the time of the attack.

A large number of people attacked Bhat's house after police raided several houses in Meemandar locality late last night in search of youth, a police official said.

The locals put up a stiff resistance because of which the police party had to beat a hasty retreat, the official said, adding the mob subsequently attacked Bhat's house.

The mob set on fire the guard room of the MLA's residence and a motorcycle parked outside it, the official said.

Kashmir has been on the boil since the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant commander Burhan Wani in an encounter on July 8.
