Army foils infiltration bid in Tangdhar, 3 militants killed

Army Sunday foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar sector of border district of Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir by killing three militants.

SRINAGAR: Army Sunday foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar sector of border district of Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir by killing three militants.

The three militants, according to army, were involved in recent attack on BSF post in the sector in which three border guards were injured.

An army official said troops deployed along LoC in Tanghdar sector detected and foiled an infiltration bid of militants.

“The militants fired from automatic weapons towards the army men. The fire was returned by the troops, triggering an encounter.  In the ensuing firefight, three militants were killed,” he said.

The official said bodies of the slain militants have been recovered. “Three weapons and other ammunition were also recovered from the possession of the slain militants”.

He said identity of the slain militant and the outfit to which they owed allegiance was being ascertained.

The official said combing operation in the area was going on.

The army official said the slain militants were involved in August 19 attack on BSF post in Tanghdar sector in which three BSF men and an army porter were injured.

Army and BSF have increased vigil along LoC and International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir to foil infiltration attempts by militants from across the border.
