NEW DELHI: A 28-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her elder brother in northwest Delhi's Outram Lane area in the wee hours of today in what police suspect was an attempted sexual assault.

According to police, the accused, who has been arrested, entered his sister's room in an inebriated condition around 1 AM and thrust open the door with his leg.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Vijay Singh said that the man killed the woman by inserting a rolling pin (belan) in her mouth and pressing her neck with his foot.

The police suspect that the man had gone to his sister's room with an intention to sexually assault her but when she resisted, he lost his temper and in a fit of rage killed her.

Even the man had a strained relationship with his wife who was staying with her brother, the officer said.
