THANE: A 45 years old man, working at a hotel in the city, was beaten to death on the suspicion of mobile phone theft.

The police have arrested the hotel owner and another waiter in connection with the incident which took place early morning yesterday.

Owner of the Eat and SiP hotel in Patlipada, Sachin Sherekar, and the waiters Munna and Tapan allegedly beat up the victim Ashok, who also worked as a waiter.

While Sherekar and Munna were arrested, search is on for Tapan, police said.

Ashok and other waiters slept in the hotel at night and it was suspected that Ashok stole mobile phones of the other two when they were asleep.

When the other two waiters woke up and realised that their phones were missing and Ashok was nowhere to be seen, they traced him near Thane railway station.

Ashok was beaten up and dumped in an auto rickshaw. He died at the Thane Civil hospital.
