SRINAGAR: At least 17 police and paramilitary men including four officials were injured when militants attacked their deployment in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday.
A police spokesman said during stone pelting near Degree College Pulwama in south Kashmir today, militants hiding in the mob fired and hurled two grenades on the deployment.
“In the militant attack, 17 police and CRPF personnel were injured. Some civilians were also injured in the attack,” he said.
The spokesman said among the security men injured includes Commanding Officer of 183 Bn CRPF, Assistant Superintendent of Pulwama (ASP) Pulwama, DySP Pulwama and SHO Pulwama.
The injured security personnel were rushed to nearby hospital, where from some of the injured were referred to Srinagar hospitals for specialized treatment. The doctors attending on the injured have termed their condition as “stable”.
After the militant attack, police and paramilitary personnel launched combing and search operation in the area to track down the militants responsible for the attack. However, no arrests were reported.
No militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The Valley is presently witnessing unrest following the killing of 21-year-old Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani and two other militants in an encounter with security forces in Kokernag area of South Kashmir on July 8.
