BJP leader slams Udit Raj for beef remarks

Asian Games gold medal-winning wrestler Kartar Singh today reacted sharply to BJP MP Udit Raj's remarks on consumption of beef

JALANDHAR: Asian Games gold medal-winning wrestler Kartar Singh today reacted sharply to BJP MP Udit Raj's remarks on consumption of beef and saying those are rubbish. "This is nonsense. It's wrong to say that Usain Bolt consumed beef and won the medals at Rio," he said.

Singh said political leaders should refrain from making such statements. "Had this been true, other players from Jamaica should have won the rest of the medals at Rio," he said. Citing Satpal Singh's success in world wrestling, he said Raj's comments are insulting to an athlete.

"Is a vegetarian not capable of winning a medal or is he not capable of performing well? If he is trying to say it is not possible, then sorry, I don't agree to his statements." Besides Singh's criticism, Raj's own partymen too were critical of his recent statement. BJP leader Laxmikanta Chwala said his remarks can misguide the youth.

Raj, MP from north-west Delhi, yesterday tweeted that Bolt has won nine medals at the Olympics as he was advised by his coach to consume beef twice a day.
