Bengaluru firms wary of visiting IIT Madras for campus placements

So far, around 400 students have been placed and over 900 students are yet to be placed in the campus.

CHENNAI: If it was the floods in 2015, this year it is the emotional breakdown over Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalitha's health taking toll on campus placements at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras.

The companies, especially those located in 'Silicon City' Bengaluru, are expressing apprehensions in visiting the campus fearing law and order situation in the State.

The training and placements cell advisor at IIT Madras Manu Santhanam told the Express that several companies are calling to check the situation in State. "The trouble is there is less or no clarity on what the real situations is. There are many rumours doing rounds and this has created tension among the recruiters," he said.

Some of the companies visiting campus on Monday have already backed away, he said.

So far, around 400 students have been placed and over 900 students are yet to be placed in the campus. On an average, around 100 students get placed per day, but now the future of these IITians looks grim if the situation does not improve.
