GUWAHATI: Two persons were killed and six others were injured when the engine and two coaches of 13248 Up Rajendra Nagar-Guwahati Capital Express train derailed at Samuktala Road station in Alipurduar district of West Bengal on Tuesday night.
According to Northeast Frontier Railway, the injured were identified as Indrajit Mandal (25), Parikshit Mandal (40), Pritam Mandal (16), Rupa Mandal (34), Shah Jamal Sheikh (35) and Surender Prasad (38).
“The deceased are yet to be identified. The injured were given treatment by railway doctors who reached the site soon after the accident. Ex-gratia payment of Rs.5,000 each has been made to the injured,” the NF Railway said in a statement.
It said the unaffected portion of the train consisting 19 coaches was detached and the train resumed its journey at 5.10 on Wednesday morning after rescue and relief operation was completed.
Following temporary disruption of services as a result of the accident, the NF Railway cancelled, diverted and short-terminated a number of trains on the route.
