Guwahati ASI opens fire on duo in ‘drunken state’, held

GUWAHATI: In a case of road rage, an assistant sub-inspector of police (ASI), who was allegedly in a drunken state, shot at two persons with his service revolver and injured them grievously. 

He has been arrested by the police and booked under IPC Sections 396 and 307 and the Arms Act.

ASI Golap Konwar, attached to Basista police station in Guwahati, had shot at the driver and the handyman of an Excavator for not giving way to his Alto to pass. The incident of firing took place on Wednesday night at Chachal area of the city. The injured persons were undergoing treatment at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.

Konwar claimed before reporters that he was surrounded by a group of seven youths and he opened fire for self-defence. The police recovered 10 live bullets from his house and seized them.
