COIMBATORE: Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley did not plan the demonetisation well and did not make enough arrangements to implement it, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy said here on Sunday.

“Arun Jaitley did not plan the demonetisation well. They should have made enough arrangements,” he told reporters at the Coimbatore International Airport on his arrival in the city on a personnel visit.

“We had recommended to the Finance Ministry to install ATMs in all public places and to print new notes with the dimensions of the demonetised notes so that ATMs won’t need to be recalibrated. We also suggested reduction of income tax. But the government did not implement these recommendations,” he added.

Jaitley should answer for the continuing cash crunch and the problems in the distribution of the new notes, he said. “It is said that the decision on demonetisation was leaked before it was officially announced. We are not going to file a case in this regard. The Central government should file the case,” Swamy said.
On the doubts raised about death of the former chief minister J Jayalalithaa, Swamy said, “Though some people have raised some suspicions, I do not have any evidence for it and I am not going to file a case about it.” Asked whether Sasikala was likely to become AIADMK general secretary, he said, “It is up to the party’s general committee members to decide. They can select whomsoever they want.”
