Singh said that he was the brand ambassador of the Election Commission and added that he had given it in writing about three weeks ago that he would not align with any political party.
It was being speculated that cricketer-turned-political Navjot Singh Sidhu could contest from Amritsar (East) seat the assembly, a seat currently held by his wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu. According to the rumour mills, Harbhajan Singh was to join Congress and contest for the Amritsar Lok Sabha seat.
There has been talk in the congress circles that Sidhu might fight Lok Sabha seat of Amritsar as Capt Amarinder Singh resigned as Member of Parliament from Amritsar.
Sidhu’s wife who joined the Congress had indicated that he (Sidhu) would contest the upcoming State polls on the party ticket. Also the grape wine was that Harbhajan Singh might contest from any seat from Jalandhar in the coming assembly elections on Congress ticket.
