Noida-based Doctor, Woman Friend Held After Drunken Assault on Biker

NEW DELHI: A Noida-based doctor and his female friend, who were in an inebriated state, were arrested for allegedly beating a biker in the Connaught Place area and later misbehaving with police officials and doctors at a government hospital.

The incident took place last night when the Mercedes SUV of the doctor, Prashant Aggarwal, brushed a motorbike near Gate No.6 of Rajiv Chowk Metro station, sending the biker, Sonu, and his colleague, who was riding pillion, crashing to the road, police said. Following the accident, Aggarwal stepped out of the car and allegedly started beating Sonu while Neha, the woman accompanying the doctor, is said to have kept shouting at Sonu and his colleague.

One of the passers-by who gathered around shot a video which today went viral and was broadcast by several TV channels. After police were informed, all four were taken to RML Hospital where Sonu was admitted with a broken leg. His colleague received first aid while the accused were subjected to a medical examination which showed that both were in an inebriated state, police said.

At the hospital, Neha allegedly tore up documents and misbehaved with doctors and police officials. "Two separate FIRs were registered in connection with the matter -- one under Sections 279 (rash driving) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of IPC at Connaught Place police

station and the other for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of his duty at North Avenue police station," DCP (New Delhi) Jatin Narwal said.

"The duo was produced in court today and their vehicle has been impounded," he said. While Aggarwal is a surgeon at a private hospital in Noida, Neha works as an HR manager there. Her father owns a petrol pump in UP's Saharanpur town.

The woman has alleged that Sonu molested her during the scuffle, a matter that police are looking into.
