NEW DELHI: Senior IPS officer Alok Kumar Verma on Monday took charge as the Delhi Police Commissioner. He succeeds B.S. Bassi, who retires today.

The 1979-batch officer, who is currently Director General (Prisons), will hold the post till July 2017.

Bassi on his last day in office earlier today said it is a 'misunderstanding' that the Delhi Police works under political pressure.
