NEW DELHI: INDIA is holding negotiations with Qatar in the last ditch effort to rescue two men from Tamil Nadu on death row in Doha, for allegedly murdering an elderly woman in 2012. The Indian Government has been given time till July 30 to challenge the verdict.

When the report was brought to the notice of Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj on the Twitter she assured that Minister of State MJ Akbar was on the matter.

“My colleague MJ Akbar will take this up with Government of Qatar tomorrow itself,” Swaraj said late Monday in response to the appeal of one Suresh Shanmugam.

The two constructions labourers Chelladurai Perumal and Alagappa Subramaniam were awarded death sentence on May 30. Sivakumar Arasan was given to life imprisonment. All three men in jail for four years.

The case came to light after lawyer Suresh Kumar took cognizance of a media report on July 15 and visited them in Doha.
