PM Modi claims skirts have been a part of Indian culture

Modi claimed that sculptures at the 13-century Konark Temple show that skirts have been a part of Indian culture.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Monday, while speaking at a ceremony in Washington claimed that sculptures at the 13-century Konark Temple in Odisha show that skirts have been a part of Indian culture since ages.

He was speaking at an event held  to mark the repatriation of Indian cultural property.

As reported by ANI, he said, the sculptures at famous Sun temple in Konark show "figurines wearing what modern fashionable girl wear who wears skirts & carries purses".

Immediatley after his speech, Twitterati started reacting, some of them even 'reminding' him that restricting women from wearing skirts has always been the party's principle.
