Undertrial escapes from custody, Officer-in-Charge closed, 3 cops suspended

An Assistant Sub-Inspector and two constables of the said police station were suspended but their names are being withheld.

BURDWAN: An undertrial escaped from police custody today in Bhatar area of Burdwan district triggering a flurry of disciplinary steps by the government who 'closed' the Officer-in-Charge and suspended two constables and an ASI.

A top district police officer said Takiar Mallick, who had been arrested on May 23 for extortion and dacoity cases in Durgapur, was in police lock up ever since.

He escaped from the lock up this morning and went missing after a manhunt was launched in an hour's time.

Stung by the incident, the police top brass formed a five-member committee and on it's preliminary findings 'closed' Bhatar OC Akash Munshi handing over the charge to Sanjay Kundu.
