Sikh body seeks declassification of 'Operation Bluestar' file

A Sikh body today demanded that the files related to 'Operation Bluestar' be declassified and made public.

NEW DELHI: A Sikh body today demanded that the files related to 'Operation Bluestar' be declassified and made public.

"Till today we do not have any authentic information as to why the 'Operation Bluestar' was conducted. Why the exact figure on the number of people killed during it, has not released till today," Partap Singh, secretary of the Sikh Forum, said at a press conference here.

"This is not only a Sikh issue, it is an issue that how minorities are treated in a democracy," he said.

'Operation Bluestar' was a military operation which took place in 1984 on the order of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to flush out Sikh extremists from the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
