Former Raj MLA arrested for 'slapping' RIICO official

Madan, an ex-MLA from Pachpadra, allegedly slapped regional manager of RIICO and was arrested following the incident.

JAIPUR: A former Congress MLA in Rajasthan was today arrested for allegedly slapping a state Industrial Development and Investment Corporation officer, triggering protests by the leader's supporters in Balotra of Barmer district.

Madan Prajapat, an ex-MLA from Pachpadra constituency, allegedly slapped regional manager of Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation (RIICO) Praveen Gupta during an encroachment removal drive in the RIICO Industrial area, on Tuesday.

"An FIR against the former MLA was lodged by the RIICO officer. Today, the accused was arrested in presence of his supporters in the town following which they started pelting stones and damaged vehicles," Additional SP Barmer Jassa Ram said.

According to the SP, the mob burnt a motorcycle and damaged other vehicles also. But the mob was dispersed and the situation was brought under control.

The former MLA had opposed the anti-encroachment drive and argued with the officials present. He allegedly slapped the RIICO officer in a fit of rage, the SP said.
