Sonowal asks 3 district DCs, SPs to protect Kaziranga rhinos

Sonowal also appealed to mediapersons to help the Government in its efforts to check killing of rhinos.  

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today directed the Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police of three districts covering Kaziranga National Park to take all possible measures to protect rhinos from poachers.        

"Saving rhinos from extinction must be taken up as a a mission to protect them from poachers and we shall extend all possible support in this regard," Sonowal said in a meeting with DCs and SPs of Jorhat, Golaghat and Nagaon districts along with senior forest officials.      

He said that whatever measure needs to be undertaken shall be adopted, including suggestions and advice from international experts for protecting rhinos and Kaziranga National Park, a World Heritage site.    

"Anyone linked to the poaching of rhinos in Kaziranga National Park will not be spared," he added. The Chief Minister appealed to people living on the fringes of the Park to remain alert against rhino poachers and urged them to also identify poachers and those having links with them.        

Sonowal also appealed to mediapersons to help the Government in its efforts to check killing of rhinos.
