NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday cautioned tax-evaders to comply with the rules by September 30 or be prepared to face the music.
Speaking on his monthly Mann Ki Baat programme, Modi said that in a country of 1.25 billion, only 1.5 lakh people reported an annual income above D50 lakh. “This is preposterous,” he said, adding that in big cities, there are lakhs of people who earn beyond this income limit. “This is evident when you look at the houses they live in. If people come to grief on account of non-compliance after September 30, the government cannot help,” the PM said, adding it was a chance for people to comply with the laws.
