NEW DELHI: President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment towards empowering women in the country, and lauded his government for 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ initiative.
Speaking at National conference on ‘Women Legislation: Building Resurgent India’, the President pointed out that the country has not been able to achieve more than 12 percent representation for women out of the total membership of the Parliament.
“Prime Minister Modi's firm commitment to true empowerment of Indian women is exemplified by his presence here,” he said.
“I thank Prime Minister Modi for, immediately after assuming the office, speaking of a slogan in Indian language ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’,” he added.
