CHAMBA: Two persons were feared buried alive under a glacier at Sundarsi on their way to the Manimahesh shrine in Chamba district, reports reaching the district headquarters said today.
The reports said that a group of five persons were on their way to the famous Manimahesh shrine to celebrate the holy festival of Mahashivaratri at the Manimahesh lake yesterday when the tragedy struck.
However, three members of the group succeeded in saving themselves and returned to Bharmaur and informed the police and local administration about the mishap.
When contacted, the Superintendent of Police Chamba Virender Tomar confirmed that information regarding the accident was received and a rescue team of the police was rushed to the spot to trace the missing pilgrims.
The persons feared to have been buried were identified as Vivek and Vikas who belonged to Banikhet area of Chamba district, the SP said.
"If need be, the assistance of the army will also be sought to launch coordinated rescue operations to trace the bodies of two youths," the SP said.
