Student Kills Self Over 'Spat With Lover'

A 26-year-old youth allegedly committed suicide on Thursday at his rented room in South Delhi’s Neb Sarai over a dispute with his girlfriend.

NEW DELHI: A 26-year-old youth allegedly committed suicide on Thursday at his rented room in South Delhi’s Neb Sarai over a dispute with his girlfriend.

Dushyant Dikshit, a resident of Dhaneta in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, had done his research project under the guidance of a Jawaharlal Nehru University professor(after completing his M Sc from Invertis University of Bareilly. According to police, his body was found hanging from a ceiling fan. “A call about the incident was made to the  police control room at 9:43 am. A police team rushed to the spot, a paying guest facility, where his body was found hanging from a fan inside his rented room on the fourth floor,” said a police officer.

The police further said a suicide note had been recovered from Dikshit’s possession. The suicide note, according to police, said that he apologised to his parents and that his laptops and other belongings should be given to his girlfriend.

The deceased had done his project at JNU between January and July 2015. Professor Nitesh Poddar from Invertis University had recommended the deceased pursue his project under Professor R K Brojen of JNU. A sub-divisional magistrate inquiry has been initiated and his parents have been informed about the death.
