MEERUT: Five members of a family, including three children, today died and five others were injured when their house collapsed in Kudi village during rain.
Superintendent of Police (Rural) Praveen Ranjan said the house belonging to one Vijaypal Prajapti (50) collapsed this morning due to rain.
Besides, Vijaypal and his daughter-in-law Suman (26), his three grandchildren Mayank (3), Khushi (5), and Durjan (7) died in the incident, he said.
Vijaypal's son Narendra was hospitalised in a serious condition while other injured were discharged after first aid.
District Magistrate Pankaj Yadav said the kin of the deceased will be given a compensation of Rs 10 lakh under the disaster and farmers insurance schemes.
