4 Die of Asphyxiation in Septic Tank

After breaking the tank, the four others have been brought out and taken to hospital where they were declared dead on arrival, police said.

ODISHA: Four persons, including three members of a family, died of asphyxiation in an under construction septic tank in their house at Samantarapur in Ganjam district today, police said.

The deceased were identified as Prasant Pradhan (30) his younger brother Padmalochan (28), their uncle Raju Pradhan (55) of Samantarapur and Santosh Pradhan (18) of Mandarada, an engineering diploma student and a relative of Prasant.

The incident took place in the morning while Prasant entered into the under-constriction septic tank in the backside of the house. When he did not come out, his brother and uncle entered into the tank to rescue him.

They also did not come out, said police.

Another villager then entered into the tank to rescue the four, was rescued by the local people.

"The fifth man raised his hands from the tank and sought help. The people gathered there lifted him out," said PK Padhy, a villager.

After breaking the tank, the four others have been brought out and taken to hospital where they were declared dead on arrival, police said.
