NIA Shares With Pakistan JIT Evidences on Pathankot Terror Attack

The team will have access to all witnesses, but not security personnel from the National Security Guard or the Border Security Force.

NEW DELHI: The Inspector General of National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday said the agency has given a detailed presentation on the evidence collected during the course of the Pathankot terror attack probe to the Pakistan Joint Investigation Team (JIT), which arrived here on Sunday.

NIA IG Sanjeev Kumar told the media, “The Pakistan JIT has arrived here at the NIA headquarters for meeting and interacting with the investigative team of the Pathankot attack case. They met director general of NIA and other officers associated with the case. During the interaction, the NIA officers gave a detailed presentation on the evidence collected during the course of investigation.”

“The Pakistan JIT and NIA team are interacting under extant legal procedure of India and Pakistan. On March 29, the JIT will be taken to different locations related with Pathankot attack case. The exercise is aimed at providing evidence to the Pakistan JIT so that all those guilty for the Pathankot terror attack could be prosecuted effectively in Pakistan,” he added.

The JIT — comprising Punjab Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) AIG Rai Tahir as convener, Intelligence Bureau Lahore Deputy Director General Azim Arshad, Lt. Col Tanvir Ahmed of the ISI, Lt, Col Irfan Mirza of MI and Gujranwala CTD Investigating Officer Shahid Tanveer — is the first time that Pakistani intelligence and police officials are travelling to India to investigate a terror attack.

The team will have access to all witnesses in the Pathankot terror attack, but not security personnel from the National Security Guard or the Border Security Force (BSF).

India has been pressing Pakistan for tangible action on the attack by terrorists in Pathankot in January, which claimed lives of seven security personnel. All terrorists involved in the attack were killed in the gun-battle.
