Tejas to be Inducted Soon, Says Parrikar

The policy aims to ensure transparency, fast-track acquisitions and give a push to ‘Make in India’ initiative.

NEW DELHI: Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday said the light combat aircraft Tejas would be inducted into the armed force soon. Terming Tejas one of the best in the world, he said, “There are a few issues regarding the size of the fuel tank. From next year, you may get a squadron of the Tejas every year.”

Parrikar also said his ministry would take a decision soon on inducting the DRDO-developed assault rifle Dhanush into the forces. He refused to set a timeline for the induction of the nuclear submarine Arihant. He was speaking at the 9th edition of the Defexpo in Goa, where the new Defence Procurement Policy was also unveiled.  The policy aims to ensure transparency, fast-track acquisitions and give a push to ‘Make in India’ initiative. It did not contain a key chapter on the proposed strategic partnership.
