Former AIR Newsreader Surajit Sen Passes Away

Sen first joined the army, but left it to become to join the news service division of AIR in 1947.

NEW DELHI: Surajit Sen, the former chief newsreader at the All India Radio, passed away here on Friday after a brief illness, the broadcaster said. He was 89.

Sen first joined the army, but left it to become to join the news service division of AIR in 1947.

Soon he became one of its most renowned voices, and later its chief newsreader. He was also a leading sports commentator of his time.

His funeral will be held on May 9.
