Assam’s elusive Congress leader Pranjit Choudhury, accused of sexually exploiting a model after promising to marry her.

GAUHATI: Assam’s elusive Congress leader Pranjit Choudhury, accused of sexually exploiting a model after promising to marry her, finally surrendered to  police on Saturday night.

On Friday, he moved the Supreme Court seeking anticipatory bail but the court directed him to surrender within two days and then apply for bail. Earlier, the 39-year-old’s anticipatory bail applications were rejected twice by the Gauhati High Court. Choudhury, who was produced in a local court on Sunday, told reporters that he was the “victim of a political conspiracy”.

Last month, a 23-year-old model, who is a student of Gauhati University, had filed an FIR alleging that the Congress leader had exploited her sexually after promising to marry her and forced her to undergo abortion before dumping her at a hotel. Choudhury hadn’t surrendered even after police served several summonses to him .
