Srinagar, Nov 15: Amid continued ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir, Army chief General Dalbir Singh on Tuesday reviewed the security along the borders and asked the soldiers to be aggressive in their approach.

General Dalbir Singh visited headquarters of army’s Northern Command at Udhampur in Jammu today to review operational preparedness of troops.

“Army chief interacted with the formation commanders and reviewed the situation along the LoC in the Command theater.  He also reviewed the internal security situation in the State especially in the Valley, which has been witnessing unrest since last more than four months,” an army official said.

The army chief’s visit to Northern command comes amid surge in ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops and killing of seven Pakistani soldiers in army firing in Bhimber Gali, Nowshera sector in Rajouri two days back.

After the surgical strikes on militant launch pads across LoC by the army in September, Pakistani troops have been on daily basis breaching border ceasefire and firing and shelling on army positions and civilian areas.

The army chief commended the soldiers for boldly responding to ceasefire violations along the LoC.

He exhorted the troops to be alert against any enemy inimical designs and be aggressive in their approach.

“The army chief also lauded the synergy and cooperation between the Northern Command, Air Force, paramilitary forces and civil administration operating in the region,” army official said.

The Pakistani troops, meanwhile, breached the border ceasefire along the LoC today.

"There was unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan Army in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district from 7.10 am,” defence spokesman in Jammu Lt Col Manish Mehta said.

He said Pakistani troops fired from automatic weapons and used mortar shells to target the army positions.

“Our men gave a befitting reply to them. The firing and shelling stopped at 11 am,” Mehta said.

Another army official said Pakistani troops also breached border ceasefire in Pallanwala sector of Jammu district and fired on army posts over night.

“Our men effectively returned the fire,” he said.

Sources said residents of at least a dozen villages in Pallanwala sector migrated to safer areas after the Pakistani forces firing and shelling.

“They have taken refuge in camps set up by the government for the evacuated border residents,” they said.
