KOLKATA: A week after a car accident fractured Abhishek Banerjee's orbit bone (socket of skull in the eye) and lodged in the ICU, will now go under the knife of a team of specialist doctors at a private hospital here on Tuesday morning.
Hospital sources said a team of doctors led by Dr Anirban Bhaduri will operate Abhishek at 11.30 am in Belle Vue Hospital. Five eye specialists are expected to be in the team of doctors. Trinamool youth leader and Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee had been admitted in the trauma unit for a week.
The Trinamool youth chief was seriously hurt after his car hit a stationary pick up van and overturned near Singur on the Durgapur Expressway on October 18. Mamata recieved the news after returning from a party meet with recently 'crossed over' former Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Manash Bhunia from Behrampore in Murshidabad district.
Abhishek's aunt Mamata smelled political conspiracy and ordered high-level enquiry into the accident.
Experts state that the accident could have been fatal had Abhishek not tigethened his seat belt.
