MP gives quit option to CM Mehbooba Mufti as Valley wakes up at night

Senior PDP leader and MP Muzzafar Hussain Baig on Thursday suggested that J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti should consider resigning if she feels the ‘Agenda of Alliance’ between the PDP and BJP is a “paper of fraud and not a paper of good faith”.

SRI NAGAR: Senior PDP leader and MP Muzzafar Hussain Baig on Thursday suggested that J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti should consider resigning if she feels the ‘Agenda of Alliance’ between the PDP and BJP is a “paper of fraud and not a paper of good faith”. Baig, a founder member of the PDP, expressed hope that Mehbooba will be able to take control of the situation but cautioned her that in case she feels that the two “alliance partners are incompatible”, she is left with only one option and that is to resign.

Meanwhile, after 61 days of shutdown and restrictions, an unusual calm returned to Srinagar and other parts of the Valley during the day on Thursday while it was buzzing with activities as people thronged the shops in the evening. Private vehicles were seen plying on the roads during the day. At 6 pm, shops were opened in Srinagar and other parts of the Valley. The traffic was back on the roads and there were traffic jams at some places.  

The shoppers thronged the market to make purchases for Eid-ul-Azha, which will be celebrated on September 13-14. “It was for the first time in last 62 days that I saw such rush of people on roads,” said Muneer Ahmad, a government teacher.

At Lal Chowk, local youth were seen helping CRPF men in pulling their vehicle from a pit.

A group of militants attacked the residence of a politician on Wednesday night and snatched four weapons from the police personnel deployed there.
