MUMBAI: Various departments of the local administration have swung into action against Kapil Sharma over allegations of land law violations even as the Congress defended the comedian, saying the BJP's “dirty tricks department” was targeting him.

“There is a ‘dirty tricks department’ in the BJP which swings into action whenever anyone raises the finger at it. The same is happening here with Sharma, who dared to take up the corruption prevailing in Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation,” city Congress president Sanjay Nirupam said.

After an FIR was lodged against Sharma for illegal construction at his Goregaon flat on Monday, forest department officials visited his office at Versova on Tuesday, where local residents had complained the destruction ofmangroves. “Our team has found that not just Sharma but at least about 50-60 residents have destroyed mangroves. We have taken GPS readings and will submit our report to the collector soon,” Assistant Forest Conservator Makarand Ghodke told Express.
