NEW DELHI: To remove myths related to science in books and propagate correct facts, the government has now decided to accredit science books based on standardized procedures that are being developed to assess the content of books available in markets.
The procedure to be developed by NIACAIR (National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources) under the Department of Science and Technology will be similar to ISI mark --certification mark for industrial products.
“There have been several science books and literature available in market where certain facts are wrong and these continue to remain same for years. We plan to provide an accreditation to science books based on assessment by experts which will ensure the text available is factually correct,” said Manoj Kumar Patairiya.
He said that it will a voluntary process and publishers and writers can approach NISCAIR for accreditation. NISCAIR will get the text assessed by experts in 38 scientific laboratories across India.
“We have experts in major disciplines related of science and they will assess the facts and based on that we will accredit the book,” he said.
