Stressing on the government’s flagship campaign of Swachch Bharat Mission, PM Narendra Modi on Monday said that the success of the cleanliness movement in the country would be the real tribute
to the Mahatma Gandhi.

“Aim of Satyagraha was independence and the aim of Swachhagraha is to create a clean India. A clean India helps the poor the most,” the PM said while inaugurating an exhibition named ‘Swachhagraha – Bapu Ko Karyanjali – Ek Abhiyan, Ek Pradarshani’ to mark 100 years of Mahatma Gandhi’s first-ever experiment of Satyagraha which he started in Champaran, Bihar.

“As we celebrate the centenary of Champaran, we need to take a resolve that we would pay our real tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. We need to incorporate his ideas and vision by adopting Swachh India campaign as a nationwide mission,” Modi said.

While speaking about Mahatma Gandhi the PM said that he attached more importance to cleanliness than freedom. Further stressing upon the Swachh Bharat Mission, he said working for cleanliness will be the real Karyanjali to Bapu. Swachch Bharat Mission is becoming a mass movement and every section of the society getting connected to it and the aim is to fulfil the dream of Mahatma Gandhi – of a clean India, he added.

“We need to set our targets of cleanliness and strive hard to fulfil them. There is no reason that we would fail. All of our villages will succeed. Every city will succeed. That will be our real tribute to Mahatma Gandhi,” The PM said.

An exhibition showcasing Champaran Satyagraha and how it will connect essential principles of Satyagraha with Swachhagraha was also launched at the National Archives in New Delhi on this occasion.

The exhibition will also showcase the ground covered by PM Modi’s Swachh Bharat Mission in creating a mass movement towards a clean India. Officials said that government’s aim behind the launch of the exhibition is to spread awareness on its Swachh Bharat Mission.
