Surgical strike on Pakistan reduced stone-pelting incidents, says Hansraj Ahir

NEW DELHI: Amidst rhetoric over outcome of September 29 Surgical strike by Indian army on terror launch pads based in the Pakistan occupied Kashmir, there is a sharp decline of nearly 25 per cent
in terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to official information provided by Minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahir in Lok Sabha that between October 1, 2016 and March 31 this year, 155 incidents of terror attacks have been
reported, while the figure was at least 193 such terror attacks between April – September 2016.

After cross-border surgical strike, decision of the NDA government was facing criticism by the various political parties over its outcome of the strike as Kashmir valley has been witnessing continuous
attacks on security forces.

However, while giving out details of the situation in the border state, the minister also claimed that there was a drastic reduction in the number of stone-pelting after the surgical strikes.

There were 2,325 incidents of stone-pelting reported in six months — from April to September 2016.

However, the number has come down to 411 in the next six months — from October 2016 to March 2017.

Moreover, there were 371 attempts of infiltration made last year and 118 militants were able to infiltrate, while 217 had to return. As many as 35 militants were killed and three were arrested during their infiltration bids last year.

According to details, given by the minister, in 2017, till February 43 attempts of infiltration were made.

Nine militants could sneak into the Indian side, four were killed and 30 others returned.

In 2016, 20 terrorist attacks took place along the India-Pakistan border in Jammu and Kashmir in which 11 security personnel and one civilian were killed.

Junior minister for the home affairs said that in the present year, only four terrorist attacks took place along the India-Pakistan border until March in which three civilians were killed.
