Three held with demonetised currency worth over Rs 13 lakh in Jammu and Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Three people were today arrested for allegedly possessing demonetised currency notes with the face value of Rs 13.63 lakh in Nigeen area here, police said.

The accused -- Bashir Ahmad Khan, Showket Ahmad Bhat and Bashir Ahmad Bhat -- were nabbed during a surprise inspection, the police said.

Old currency with a face value of Rs 13.63 lakh in the denomination of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 was seized from them, they said.

A case under the Specified Bank Notes (Cessation of Liabilities) Act, 2017, was registered against them, the police said.
