MLA narrates threat to life; creates flutter in Uttar Pradesh Assembly

Independent MLA Amanmani Tripathi today created a flutter in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly when he claimed threat to his life.

LUCKNOW: Independent MLA Amanmani Tripathi today created a flutter in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly when he claimed threat to his life from history-sheeters and that fake cases were being registered against him.

He said there was a deliberate attempt to mar his political career and family.

"There is a conspiracy by history-sheeters of Gorakhpur against me...I have been framed in the murder of my wife and now I have been accused of seeking 'rangdari' (extortion money) of Rs one lakh," the Nautanva MLA said during a debate in the House on law and order situation in the state.

The Nautanva constituency in Maharajganj district borders Gorakhpur, the home turf of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

"There is an (evil) design against my political career, family and an attempt to dent my image," Tripathi said.

When the members prodded him to reveal the identity of those working against him, Tripathi named a former MLA as the patron of the history-sheeters.

It drew a strong retort from the former member's son and BSP MLA Vinay Tewari.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna assured Tripathi that the state government was ready to enhance his security.
