Congress, BJP spar over Rahul’s Modi jibe

They go around saying development has gone mad.

NEW DELHI: They go around saying development has gone mad. That is because they probably don’t understand it. How will they understand the development model, if they go about calling it names. Clearly they are speaking in a state of shock and denial,” he said.

Shortly after the results on Monday, the Congress had claimed it as a moral victory while Rahul accepted defeat and congratulated the BJP for forming the government in the two states.

Rahul, who recently took over as the Congress president, claimed that Gujarat had rejected Modi’s development model saying his campaign was “good marketing but shallow”. He said the Congress would ponder over the reasons for the party’s poll loss and move on.

“He is clueless on how to compete with PM Modi,” Javadekar responded.

According to Rahul, he was told by party managers that the Congress couldn’t challenge the BJP in Gujarat. “BJP has got a shock in the elections this time,” he said.

“We accept that BJP has won, however their seats in Gujarat decreased drastically. This is a reflection of their campaign that was only based on exploiting the emotions of people, rather than development,” Congress leader Anand Sharma said.
