NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday arrested a senior functionary of banned ULFA Gagan Hazarika alias Joydeep Cheleng who is expected to unravel secrets relating to the top leadership of the outfit.
"His arrest is likely to throw light on the activities of senior leadership of the ULFA including Chairman Mukul Hazarika and C-in-C Paresh Barua since he was closely associated with them during their visit /stay at camps of ULFA located in Myanmar, " the NIA said in a statement.
Hazarika is a resident of village Purani Jabra under Charaideo district in Assam.
He had joined ULFA in 2008 and and was made the self-styled second lieutenant in the outfit.
Hazarika is wanted in NIA case number RC-04/2013/NIA-GUW.
Special NIA Court, Guwahati has granted six-day police custody to NIA.
