MUMBAI: Both the Houses of Maharashtra legislature had to be adjourned on Wednesday as the Opposition remained firm on their demands and did not allow any business to be carried out.
Since early morning, Opposition members gathered at the entrance of the legislative complex and raised slogans in favour of crop loan waiver even before the Houses met for the day.
As the Speaker Haribhau Rathod called for business to begin at the Assembly, leader of Opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil rose to move an adjournment motion.
The chair tried to push through the question hour, but the Opposition remained aggressive. The House had to be adjourned twice for 15 minutes before being adjourned for the day. Surprisingly, Shiv Sena members, who had been raising the issue of crop loan waiver, chose to remain away from the Opposition’s stir.
In the upper House, the Opposition stuck to their demand of suspending BJP-supported independent MLC Prashant Paricharak for his comments against the wives of soldiers.
Leader of the House revenue minister Chandrakant Patil tried to argue that the House needed to function even for suspension of the member, but the Opposition remained adamant till the House was adjourned for the day. Patil then announced the formation of a seven-member committee to decide on the issue.
