Minor girl killed in Jammu and Kashmir crossfire

An army official also indicated that the identity of the slain militants was being ascertained.

SRI NAGAR: A minor girl was among the casualities of a gunbattle in the border district of Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday in which security forces killed three militants.

A police spokesman said that acting on a specific information about the presence of militants, the police, the Army’s 41 Rashtriya Rifles, and the 98 CRPF personnel launched a joint cordon and search operation in Jugtiyal, Hyhama in border district of Kupwara this morning.

He said a police constable identified as Danish Ahmad sustained bullet injuries in the firefight.
The spokesman pointed out that while a a minor girl, Kaneeza, died, her brother Faisal was injured after being hit by stray bullets more than 100 meters from the encounter site.

“The injured was shifted to hospital for treatment. The girl succumbed to injuries,” he said.
An army official also indicated that the identity of the slain militants was being ascertained.
