Over 95,000 stranded Indians evacuated from abroad in past two years: Centre

"95,665 Indian nationals were assisted, evacuated and brought back to India during the last two years," Minister of State for External Affairs V K Singh said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha.

NEW DELHI: Over 95,000 Indians were evacuated and brought back home from countries affected by war, internal strife and natural disaster during the last two years, the government said today.

"95,665 Indian nationals were assisted, evacuated and brought back to India during the last two years," Minister of State for External Affairs V K Singh said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha. He said the Central government has been according highest priority to the safety and security of overseas Indians and all matters relating to them are being monitored at the level of the external affairs minister. Singh said to ensure welfare of Indians seeking to go abroad for employment, the government has also launched an awareness campaign called 'Go safe, go trained'.
