10:15 am: Union Minister Manoj Sinha emerges as the latest candidate but plays down any such news saying, “Naa mujhe kisi race kaa pata hai, naa main kisi race main hun (neither do I know about any race nor am I in any race).”

11:05 am: Keshav Prasad Maurya arrives at BJP President Amit Shah’s house for a meeting

11:25 am: Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu arrives in Lucknow. Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s son, Pankaj Singh, who won from Noida, also arrives

11:40 am: Another front-runner for the CM post, Yogi Adityanath, falls behind in the race. His supporters demand his appointment as the new Chief Minister

1:00 pm:  Union Minister Manoj Sinha denies being in race

2:50 pm: Both Yogi Adityanath and Om Mathur leave for Lucknow to attend the BJP LP meet

3:20 pm: Om Mathur reaches with BJP UP Chief Keshav Maurya. Yogi Adityanath reaches Lucknow on a charter plane

4.47 pm: Speculation rife over Yogi Adityanath’s name for the CM post. Dinesh Sharma and Keshav Prasad Maurya’s names spring up for the post of deputy CM

5:30 pm: Yogi Adityanath walks inside the BJP office making a victory sign. BJP Leaders Yogi Adityanath, Bhupendra Yadav, Om Mathur, KP Maurya and Sunil Bansal hold a separate meeting, ahead of BJP MLAs meet

5.52 pm: Bharatiya Janata Party Uttar Pradesh Legislative members’ meet starts at Lok Bhawan. Reports say Yogi Adityanath’s selection is an almost done deal

6.04 pm: Yogi Adityanath is named CM designate for UP. Keshav Prasad Maurya says: “I welcome Yogi Adityanath as the Chief Minister.”

7.10 pm: BJP makes official announcement—Yogi Adityanath is the next Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister. Suresh Kumar Khanna, the senior-most BJP legislator, had proposed Yogi Adityanath’s name for the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s post

7.31 pm: Yogi Adityanath heads to Raj Bhavan along with a delegation of senior BJP leaders including Venkaiah Naidu, Om Mathur, Dinesh Sharma, and Keshav Prasad Maurya
