I award the death sentence to each of the convicts — Akshay Thakur, Mukesh Singh, Vinay Shar - ma and Pawan Gupta under IPC 302,” said Additional Sessions Judge Yogesh Khanna. While delivering the sen- tence, the judge said, “The increasing trend of crimes against women can be ar- rested only when the society realises that there will be no tolerance for any form of de- viance against women and more so in extreme cases of brutality such as the present one and hence the criminal justice system must instil confidence in the minds of people, especially women.” “The crime of such nature against helpless women re - quires exemplary punish - ment,” he added.
